God’s Word Is Not Chained

“Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained.” 2 Tim. 2:8-9.

In Acts 16:22-24, we read about Paul and Silas being beaten with rods and thrown into the inner prison with their feet fastened in stocks. Humanly speaking, the situation looked quite hopeless. “But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.” V. 25.

We experience many different situations in life. I can be faced with powerful trials and feel tempted to anxiousness and discouragement, or I can be tested in sickness and need. Regardless of the circumstances that are sent our way, God’s word can come to our aid and be a source of strength, comfort and encouragement, because His word is not chained! God’s word is full of life; it gives a future and a hope and promises to those who endure in temptation. Jas. 1:12. There, in the midst of the various circumstances in my life, I can sing songs of praise to God, and be in a spirit of prayer!

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb. 4:12.

The word is living and powerful, and if I receive the word in the Spirit in which it is written, I can receive help that will be of eternal value to me. The word judges and divides the thoughts and intents of the heart, and life becomes simple when the word is given free rein. When I reckon myself dead to sin and alive to God, I start to stand before God and not before men. I take heed to myself and to the doctrine and I can be of help both to myself and to those who hear me. 1 Tim. 4:16.

Praise God for His word! Here we get to experience what God’s will is, and we can align our lives according to the plumb line. Here we find the greatest and most precious promises! Through these we can be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Pet. 1:4.

Let us in all things commend ourselves as ministers of God. 2 Cor. 6:4-10. The circumstances we encounter are inconsequential, because God’s word shows us the way through these circumstances. We come in contact with His divine power that has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. 2 Pet. 1:3.
