Be Like Me, for I Am Like You!
Paul offered this simple invitation to the Galatians in chapter 4:12. [Norw.] This wasn’t spiritual arrogance, but they encountered someone who was at their level and who, therefore, was merciful—someone who understood what the problem actually was and who could help.
It was the same with Jesus: “But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.” Matt. 9:36. He did not despise them, but He sorrowed. He really wanted to help them. Then He said to His disciples: “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” V. 37. The harvest is in real need of laborers. Such laborers always work with their fellow men, and they work to get as close as possible to the source of the problem. Such laborers do not have all the answers after observing things in a brief and superficial manner, but they approach those who are needy on an equal footing.
May we become such laborers who, in sincerity and love, can make the same offer to those around us: Be like me, for I am like you! This creates fellowship and confidence!
