Here on the earth as I journey with Jesus

1.
Here on the earth as I journey with Jesus,
Great is my longing as homeward I run.
Trials and pain on the way test and prove me;
I become strong as each battle is won.
2.
Jesus has opened the way, and I’ll follow,
Though, for the flesh, pain and suff’ring there’ll be.
My hope of glory I’m boldly professing.
God’s Holy Spirit is my guarantee.
3.
Jesus, My Lord—hope of glory eternal—
Humbled Himself, came to earth here below.
He was made like us, our flesh took upon Him,
So that we into His image could grow.
4.
He as a Son suffered, learning obedience;
His work He finished on Calvary’s hill.
He feared the Lord, so His prayers to the Father
Always were heard; God His longings did fill.
5.
O how I long just to follow my Savior,
Weak in myself but with Him as my all.
From worldly pleasures I’ll flee as I ever
Battle for Jesus who gave me my call.
6.
Friend, is it also your longing to follow?
But when the going gets rough, do you fail?
Quietly listen and heed Jesus’ Spirit!
Go forth in faith; you’ll get strength to prevail.
