That gath’ring in God’s house one night

1.
That gath’ring in God’s house one night
I’ll ne’er forget, I know.
A heav’nly wind swept through with might
Where embers had burned low.
2.
Our hearts for God were set ablaze;
All self-will now was doomed.
All leaven from the former days
Was by the fire consumed.
3.
Our prayers arose with fervency—
Right to God’s throne they went.
With strengthened hope we wept as we
Renewed our covenant.
4.
We promised there to give You all
And not take back a thing.
And judgment over self did fall;
To death all self we’ll bring.
5.
Temptations, trials are as before;
More battles must be fought.
But now we trust in God the Lord
And triumph as we ought.
6.
If ever we should start to tire,
Remind us of that day
When we with voice and heart entire
Did promise to obey.
