Over earth the darkness gathers, Sheep and shepherds go astray.
Nursing babies, children, mothers faint and perish in the way.
Woe to those at ease, while Joseph is afflicted, troubled sore.
Faithless shepherds twist God’s judgments, and the upright they abhor.

Woe to those who wait the coming of the Lord but don’t prepare;
Don’t they know that they’ll reap darkness? They’re deceived and greatly err.
Who will stand forth in the gap for lands and peoples, night and day?
Who will follow God’s commandments that His wrath be turned away?

Place the beacon in the lampstand, o’er the earth to shine its rays!
Do not hide it with a bushel; let the light judge sin’s dark ways.
Light from God is everlasting; God the Lord is at the source.
On the Word it is established. Evil can’t deflect its course.
