Only true faith gives us victory
As on life’s way we tread.
Heroes of faith saw the promises.
God fulfilled what He’d said.
But unbelief or a double mind
Foster both doubt and fear.
Keep your eye single, lay hold of faith,
Or certain fall is near.

Enoch by faith walked with God each day;
Then he was seen no more.
Abel by faith made his sacrifice—
Better than Cain’s, for sure.
Children of Israel on Jordan’s bank
God’s Promised Land had spied.
Unbelief kept them from going in.
They in the desert died.

Abraham, father of faith became.
He gave to God his son,
Whom God gave back as the lineage
Of Christ, the promised One.
Thomas who doubted beside the grave,
Peter on stormy seas—
Both were by fear and by doubt o’ercome.
Thus Christ they did not please.

Not all reach out and lay hold of faith.
Those who obey are blest.
Walking in light bright as noonday sun,
They can endure each test.
They abhor envy and counsels dark;
From evil ways they flee.
Those who by faith to the end endure
Honored by God will be.
