407. Righteousness

Message of Johan O. Smith
March 31, 1933

Melchizedek, first being translated “king of righteousness,” and then also king of Salem, meaning “king of peace.”

We must first and foremost practice righteousness in all things, and then be peaceable. You cannot deceive Christ. Christ is righteousness. We must first and foremost practice righteousness. We are to be trees of righteousness. There is a serious lack of righteousness, even within these walls. There are brothers here who by this time ought to have been teachers. All this is due to a lack of righteousness.

Isa. 11. The Spirit of wisdom is saturated with righteousness—which is the principal characteristic of God’s Spirit. You will never get strength or power without righteousness. Your counsel must be completely free from seeking your own. Pour out your life and blood before the face of the Lord. Then you will have strength, vigor, spirit, and life. Be conscious and vigilant in your hidden life and before people. Be a lamb among your spiritual brothers and sisters, but a lion to the outside. Isa. 61:1-6. The laws in your own heart tell you what is right and good. Follow them carefully. Prov. 10:11 and 10:16. The lips of the righteous feed many. Prov. 10:21. The hope of the righteous will be gladness. Verse 28. He will never be removed. Verse 30. Heb. 7:3. The angels can see transformation from the outside, but the powers of eternal life are within. The science of the unrighteous is not able to overcome the wisdom of righteousness. No one can move a righteous person. Think carefully about everything you do. Do you seek God’s honor or carnal honor? God will honor whoever seeks His honor. Therefore seek God’s honor alone. Reject all honor from the flesh. Seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness. Seek righteousness and Wisdom!
