408. The Elders
Excerpt from a message on the October 21, 1936
1 Pet. 5:1-5
An elder is someone who suffers in order to lead God’s church forward. Among the elders everything must be in order. Not only must they watch over themselves and take heed to themselves and to the doctrine, but they must also feed and serve the others. They must personally not take up too much space. We need examples for the flock, not preachers or those who seek their own.
We cannot receive anything greater than the crown of glory that does not fade away. Many can receive the crown of life, but the unfading crown of glory is woven by men who have brought forth other people through their own sufferings.
I wish there would be many such elders among us.
