I long for my heavenly dwelling

1.
I long for my heavenly dwelling,
Where, Lord, I’ll behold Thee one day.
My longing is deep and compelling;
More fully Thy laws I’d obey.
2.
A yearning, intense and unceasing,
Is fervently burning in me,
Dear Master, to Thee to be pleasing;
O may Thy work deeper yet be.
3.
I cannot slack off, but press onward;
The goal I see yet from afar.
O depths of God’s wisdom and knowledge!
By faith all things possible are.
4.
Increase deep within me my yearning;
My self-will consume, Lord, with fire.
O Spirit, give guidance and learning;
Fulfill in me, Lord, Thy desire.
5.
O Father, I know it’s Thy pleasure
Thy kingdom to give unto me.
Away from the world draw me further;
My heart undivided must be.
6.
My need is so urgent and pressing;
I’ll hasten—the end is so near.
Deceptive is all earthly glory.
O help me not cling to things here.
7.
I am but a pilgrim and stranger;
My home is not here, but above.
Thine image I’ll bear, Lord and Master—
In lowliness serving in love.
