I wandered through the desert, defeated and in need

1.
I wandered through the desert, defeated and in need.
Distressed and unfulfilled, I was yearning to be freed.
I read the words of Jesus, that He could free indeed.
I longed to hear the Word that to liberty would lead.
2.
By friends and kin deserted—they left me so alone.
I prayed with all my heart. How I longed to find a home.
He saw me in my desert; my desperate cry He heard.
He led to an Oasis where flowed the living Word.
3.
He quenched my thirst with waters of life so pure and good.
I heard my Savior’s voice, though I barely understood.
I then was born again by His Word of truth within.
He gave me grace and power so I could conquer sin.
4.
The Church became my home on the new and living way.
I found the peace of heaven; it’s in my heart to stay.
God’s loving hand is over and under me each day.
He cares for me and keeps me; He’s faithful, come what may.
5.
O how I long for heaven, to see my Bridegroom dear;
In trials, prayers, and battles I know He’s ever near.
Dear Lord, You’ll soon bring peace. Every tear You’ll wipe away.
You chasten and You comfort. O thanks for grace each day.
