In many a heart, love of money does reign;
For riches they strive night and day.
Their lusts become greater the more that they gain;
Their lives are consumed in this way.

A high price is paid to excel in a sport;
With knowledge and art it’s the same.
They squander their lives, which are precious and short,
Because they seek honor and fame.

Their hearts with indiff’rence and doubts have been filled.
The Spirit cannot abide there.
And yet they’re so eager to plant and to build;
To flesh they give plenty of care.

By beauty enthralled and by glamour deceived,
They worship the great and the grand.
The kingdom of heaven they haven’t perceived;
God’s blessings they don’t understand.

6.

God’s altar repair, so it’s fully restored;
It’s foolish and pointless to doubt.
But if you’re wholehearted, it pleases the Lord;
On you holy fire He’ll pour out.
