Shadows deepen as the daylight wanes

1.
Shadows deepen as the daylight wanes;
Unbelief is everywhere.
O’er the earth the prince of darkness reigns
And spreads destruction and despair.
2.
People, languishing on pathways bleak,
Search for living streams and bread.
Toiling masses and God’s people seek
Refreshment at the Fountain Head.
3.
In a hopeless stupor many sleep—
Those who say they’re Christians too.
Truth they will not hear, nor God’s Word keep.
They won’t give all, His will to do.
4.
O how many souls are lost and bound
In a tangle of deceit—
Snared in Satan’s nets, they stumble round
And suffer anguish and defeat.
5.
Father, free these captive ones, I pray,
From the devil’s cruel hand.
By Your grace teach them salvation’s way;
O teach them truth to understand.
6.
Drive out many faithful workers, Lord,
Ere the harvest time is through,
Ones who’ll wage Your battles, wield the Sword,
And gladly give their lives for You.
