O wondrous day, when light broke through from heaven

1.
O wondrous day, when light broke through from heaven
Into my darkened soul with pow’r and might,
When from my eyes the veil by God was lifted,
And He for heaven’s treasure gave me sight.
Chorus:
O wondrous day, when by God’s grace and mercy
The light of life I first beheld;
When love divine revealed life’s hidden myst’ry,
Then all the shadows were dispelled.
2.
O wondrous day! He won my heart completely!
My lot became so blest and light and free.
I learned to still my soul amidst life’s suff’rings
And kiss the chast’ning hand so tenderly.
Chorus:
O wondrous day! My heart with song rejoices,
So full of wonder, joy, and praise!
So sweet became the bitterness, the suff’ring;
And now rejoicing fills my days.
3.
O wondrous day! With love my heart is burning.
The bride says Yes! to all her Bridegroom’s will.
The soul no more before her Judge is quaking,
But answers, “Abba, Father,” trusting still.
Chorus:
Then precious bands of love are knit together.
The Father takes my hand in His.
A thousand foes can’t break these bands asunder;
Then vict’ry sure and glorious is.
4.
O wondrous Day, when with new tongues and voices,
No more like stamm’ring babes we’ll praise our King.
But with a glorious, mighty “Hallelujah!”
Eternal praise and thanks with might we’ll sing.
Chorus:
O wondrous Day when full redemption cometh!
We’ll leave behind the “forecourt” here
And enter heaven’s Holiest of Holies.
O wondrous Day, so very near!
