Thanks that man's strength by Thee is bowed

1.
Thanks that man’s strength by Thee is bowed
And that Thou bringest low the proud.
And thanks that by Thy chast’ning rod
Thou drivest folly out, O God.
2.
Thanks that Thy wisdom leads us down
From heights where Thou canst not be found.
Thanks that for every chast’ning blow
More wisdom, pure, within doth grow.
3.
Thanks that Thou always leadest down,
For there the way of peace is found.
There, hid in Thee, I’d always be;
In this Thou wilt not hinder me.
4.
Down in the depths doth life unfold.
There in the depths dwells joy untold.
There songs of praise arise to Thee,
And hearts rejoice so glad and free.
