My soul, why are you so distraught

1.
My soul, why are you so distraught,
When God’s unmoved and changes not?
Why bound by flesh do you remain,
In constant dread of death and pain?
/: Be still a little while, for you
Have God’s own Word, and He is true. :/
2.
Here you’ll be tried, despised, and more;
You’re called to suffer with your Lord.
A cov’nant with your Savior make;
The cross He bore just for your sake.
/: By this He learned how to obey;
For you He opened up the way. :/
3.
Seek not man’s honor—it is vain,
And this world’s glory brings no gain;
But hidden from all earthly view,
Take up your cross and battle through.
/: Though others mock, God sees you still.
With heaven’s peace your heart He’ll fill. :/
