A way has been opened by Jesus, God’s Son.
No scribe of this world comprehends what He’s done.
It goes through His flesh, bringing death to all sin
Through judgment and burning within.

A race is before us—and also a fight!
Take heed! Don’t be slack! T’ward the goal run with might!
Our calling and goal is like Jesus to be—
Both lion and lamb, just as He.

“Look only to Jesus,” the hypocrites say.
But we will be faithful and walk on the way.
Our eyes we fix firmly on foes to defeat;
We’ll conquer each one that we meet.

The clamorous throngs can with lofty words claim:
They’re pure in their hearts, and they honor His name.
But malice they bear; they their hearts thus defile.
Their tongues harbor poison and guile.

5.

Their god is their belly; they glory in shame,
And doctrines of demons they preach in God’s name.
They’ve whitewashed the graves; they do not look within
Where death reigns and measureless sin.

6.

We won’t eat and drink and then rise up to play
Lest we be deceived and in sin go astray.
From Egypt we’re saved to a life that is new.
Our God, He is jealous and true.

Take heed to yourself and the doctrine, my friend.
’Gainst faithless, adulterous spirits contend!
Forget former things and press on to the goal!
For this is your calling, dear soul!
