God's witnesses, so many

1.
God’s witnesses, so many, on earth have testified,
But none could search the heart and its chambers deep inside.
/: Its thoughts and its intentions were hidden from their sight,
So none could judge its motives in God’s light. :/
2.
But He who came with water and blood was God’s own Son,
And now with Christ as Witness, God’s judgment has begun,
/: Dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow too.
The storms are stilled; we come to rest so true. :/
3.
The Spirit of the Lord calls for sacrifice within.
It costs our self-life’s blood to be freed from bonds of sin.
/: When we obey God’s Spirit, His joy and peace He’ll give.
He lifts us up as kings and priests to live. :/
4.
While we were in the flesh, God’s good Spirit to us came.
Then bitter, hard, and long was His battle, us to claim.
/: The law of life in Christ set us free from sin’s dark ways.
Our liberated spirits sing His praise. :/
5.
As people of the Spirit, our lives we live for God.
Our hearts burn to obey Him and walk the way He trod.
/: The death of Christ is reigning, and sin is brought to light—
The bride of Christ comes more and more to sight. :/
6.
We praise You, Jesus! Water and blood have testified
That sin will meet its death when we bear Your death inside.
/: O may our lives bear witness to those with whom we live
That life in You eternal fruit will give. :/
