From death's dominion my soul is free

1.
From death’s dominion my soul is free.
/: My soul is free. :/
I thank the Lord who reveals to me
Himself, with light and with comfort.
The daylight now in my heart does shine,
And at His table I freely dine.
This strengthens body; yes, soul and mind
Rejoice with praise to God’s glory.
2.
From easy living and slumbering,
/: And slumbering, :/
The Lord has saved me to help Him bring
Ashore the net He is drawing.
A flock is gathered now unto God.
Each shepherd uses his staff and rod;
And those most wretched we draw and prod,
For Jesus’ love is compelling.
3.
The evil shepherds are chased away,
/: Are chased away. :/
Great fear now falls on the wolves of prey.
God’s grace for this is abundant.
The lambs get all they must have to grow.
Here in the flock they are safe, they know.
And all old leaven of doubt must go!
Just like a mist, it must vanish.
4.
Here in the Church is the home for me,
/: The home for me. :/
Each faithful soul to us led shall see
True fellowship in the Spirit.
The truth that frees us from Satan’s sway
Is promised here on the narrow way.
The soul rejoices and wants to stay
Where God’s own Word is in action.
5.
Despised, unknown, we are offered here,
/: Are offered here. :/
We have an anchor of hope, so dear,
Where tears and sorrow are ended.
What does it matter to us if we
Must watch and strive here relentlessly.
Our rest and comfort so blest shall be
In Zion’s mighty pavilions.
6.
When we have finished life’s battle here,
/: Life’s battle here, :/
We’ll stand with lamps burning, bright and clear,
And lay our glory before Him.
He who begins and works till the end,
High over cherubim does ascend.
We give Him glory, and He will then
Reward His bride in abundance.
