It Is Crucial to Believe!
We sing in song no. 412 in WotL: “Faith in Jesus fills us with the Spirit’s might—living waters from us flow with life and light . . .” We will never come to streams of living water without completely surrendering to the faith that God loves us for who we are, and “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Phil. 1:6.
In other words, we need to be fully convinced that it is incredibly rewarding to endure when suffering comes. Then the work will be completed, and the life that we long for will appear more and more.
We are instructed in Heb. 12:2: “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Here we see that Jesus believed that there was a joy that was set before Him, and He thus received power to patiently endure the cross. That faith led Him right to the throne of God.
It is absolutely crucial to believe in God’s election and that He has a definite plan for each one of us. Is there anything else that could lead us and fill us with strength in our battle against sin? “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Heb. 11:6. Here we see how important it is to have faith. You have to believe that there is a solution expressly for you. There is a way out for you in your situations, a way that will lead you into a life with God, and fellowship with His holy men and women.
We must never give up, because God has promised that He will allow Himself to be found by us in the circumstances of life. “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jer. 29:13.
“Though we must battle and we must suffer, He leads and guides us in wondrous ways.” See song no. 270 in WotL.
God be praised for His mighty work that takes place in everyone who believes.
