The Bible
It is the Book of books; it cannot be compared to any other book. It contains all the truths of life in detail. By a living faith in and obedience to these truths, our mind, our heart, and our deeds are transformed.
It contains the way of life, the way of happiness, leading us to that which is genuinely sound and good and profitable. It yields only true gain and no real loss!
It is particularly significant that almost everyone neglects to read in it. They are afraid to read in it, as if it would hurt them and take away their happiness. Many people receive it as a gift at the time of confirmation,1 but they do not read it. On the other hand, they read all kinds of other things that are not good for them at all! How ironic!!!
It is even more ironic that believers—the vast majority of them—read comparatively very little in this wonderful book as if it were of very little interest. Yet they read a considerable amount of other things, as though it doesn’t matter what they read or whether they read in this indescribably glorious book at all.
We have a bitter adversary, and obviously one of his main ploys, his schemes, is to seek to hinder everyone from reading it, unconverted and converted people alike, precisely because it is so effective in saving us from sin and all the powers of Satan!
May everyone who reads this take it seriously and powerfully to heart!
