Ruling Over Sin or Being Ruled by It
In Romans 6:12 it is written that we must not let sin reign in our mortal body. In Romans 5:17 it states with exceptionally strong words to what degree, and with what kind of absolute inflexibility we must rule over ourselves, over sin, over all our sinful inclinations.
The words are so strong—and they are just as true—that it is almost impossible to comprehend them so that you really are able to see what is actually written in this amazing verse with your otherwise very reliable eyes.
1) For example, Hitler was a terrible ruler. He sent several million Jews to their inevitable death.
2) However, death is an even more severe lord. It sends everyone to Hades; even Hitler inevitably ended up there. As the saying goes, “There is a mightier one over the mighty one.” The one ruler is worse than the next.
3) But now we come to the third point. It is extremely difficult to believe, but blessed is he who believes. Make the effort now and take a good look at what Paul, the sober apostle, wrote: just as death reigns over all mankind, so we shall (and can) reign much more in life over all conscious sin, over ourselves, over all our sinful inclinations!
What a dominion! What rulers! History mentions some absolute monarchies! However, this absolute monarchy must justly be said to be in a special class, far above any other realm on earth!
Imagine, reigning much more than death reigns!!! Does this mean even more mercilessness, categorically and severely? Sinning? No! No! No! Only a little bit? Not at all! Neither now nor later, neither a little bit nor more! Rather die on the spot than sin!
In other words, “There is a mightier one over the mighty one.” One, two, three! 1) Hitler. 2) Death. 3) We who believe.
God be praised! Glory, glory, glory to God! It is vital to believe.
