Our God
People have various ideas about God, but only one is correct; namely, the one which the Word gives us.
In Psalm 50:3 it is written: “Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; a fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous all around Him.”
Here we see that God shall come, that He will not be silent, and that He is surrounded by fire and storms.
Therefore those who want to press into God must not be afraid of the storms and the words with which He surrounds Himself, but press into His presence with might and take the kingdom by force. Those who do not possess the courage of faith for this will continue to whirl around like a restless planet, never entering into rest, because God is not found in the storm, but in quietness and in the hidden. “The Lord said He would dwell in the dark cloud.” 1 Kings 8:12.
God is still in rest, and He still calls people to Himself, but nobody is allowed to enter in who has an uncircumcised heart. There are many who try, but are unable to press through the words, the fire, and the storms with which He surrounds Himself. We cannot do anything about that. They are satisfied with serving God on the periphery without gaining any more knowledge of Him than what the ear has heard. Such servants cannot be used for bearing the most holy things. Their knowledge of God is far too superficial—they have never sat in God’s secret counsel.
However, God now has firstfruits who have forsaken everything, who love God’s judgments, and who have made a covenant with Him by sacrifice. Psalm 50:4-5. Nothing is too hard for them. They are members of the body that was presented as a perfect sacrifice once and for all, therefore they experience a joy in being partakers of the sufferings with Him. These are the sufferings that mold them into the likeness of the Son.
Our God is a consuming fire, and those who press into Him become like Him. They are as firm as fire against all sin and worldly spirits wherever they stand in life. Relatives and friends, marriage partners and children, must all pass through this fire in order to have fellowship with them. They consider the field of work that has been entrusted to them by God most holy. To such people, the Day that will be revealed by fire cannot come as an unexpected surprise.
May there be many of us in these last days who love to hear God’s word and submit to His judgments over our life.
