As Men Do
This is a very meaningful truth, a revelation of one of the most common and most critical mistakes, a mistake that hinders all development because it is rooted in pride, and God resists the proud. 1 Pet. 5:5. It is also drawing back, and God is not pleased with the soul who draws back. Heb. 10:38.
This is what men do: they hide their sins; they conceal their transgressions. They will not admit the bad things they have done; they excuse themselves and explain away their misdeeds. They even pretend that they know nothing about them; they don’t even realize what you are talking about—they act as if they are completely innocent.
Job was of the opinion that if he had acted like that, it would not be strange if it had gone badly with him. But he had absolutely not acted like that. On the contrary, he had openly acknowledged his sin—without considering the contempt of men. That is also the very reason he got rid of it as it is written, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” Prov. 28:13.
Let us therefore not do as men do, but let us rather do like Job, for he became the most righteous man on earth in his days; he also became very happy.
