A Way to Walk On
On their deathbed, most people have to judge and condemn all the deeds they have done throughout their life. Often they are so sinful that prayers for forgiveness have to be said on their behalf. They enter into salvation naked.
Among the thousands of Christians, there are very few who can say with Paul, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” If you ask professing Christians, you will find that concepts such as “the race” and “the way” are totally foreign to them. Jesus is “the Way,” a way to walk on. He is “the Truth.” Most people know Him as “Grace.” Yet His name is “Truth,” not “Grace.” He is full of grace, however, for those who want to be saved by the truth, but grace can be received in vain if it is not followed by an acknowledgement of the truth. Christ is full of grace and truth. However, only the truth sets us free.
I once heard a preacher proclaim that you become like Jesus just by looking at Him. I don’t think anyone ever became a star by just sitting still and staring at the stars. But if Christ is able to work in us by His Spirit both to will and to do, we will be transformed into His image from glory to glory. There is a way to walk on and a race to finish. If we want to become like Jesus, our will must be bowed; otherwise, what we see will be of no avail, no matter how long we look at it.
Let us keep to the truth, and it will set us free from sin and from our self-life. It will also set us free from religious storytellers and their fairy tales. Wisdom must be our faithful companion in this life, and by it we will rule with Christ in the life to come.
