Faithfulness in the Light
No light can be used faithfully unless it is coupled with grace (love and mercy). God has given us light so we can see and judge clearly in our circumstances. In this light we can deal with things in the right way. God is very interested in how we make use of this light. This is the standard He uses to determine our faithfulness which always, without exception, seeks what is best for our neighbor?
If a person forges ahead in the light and yet has lost his care for the others, the purpose of the light is wasted. God does not give us light for its own sake, but for the purpose of doing something in the light. There were people who rejoiced in John’s light. It is a joy when light dawns, but it is how we do the works that await us in the areas that have been enlightened that will demonstrate the extent of our faithfulness. Here the light becomes very practical. We no longer rejoice over the light for its own sake; we rejoice because it helps us do our work so much better. Light is to be our co-worker. We are children of the day; let us work as long as it is called “Today.”
