That You May Be Justified in Your Words

and may overcome when you are judged . . . indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. Rom. 3:4.

Living according to this word is a necessary condition for being able to choose the good and reject the evil. He who knows how to do this, and does it, is blessed, because he shall eat curds and honey. Is. 7:15.

Jesus says in John 7:24, “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” An example in order to illuminate how you shall judge with a righteous judgment is: One brother can say about another brother that he is so upright and humble, and that is why he feels so sorry for him, since he is not growing in God. It is quite possible that he can have a pious appearance when you look at him, but do not judge according to what your eye sees! God says: I give grace to the humble. Furthermore, God’s word also says that we grow and become strong through grace. If this growth does not occur it is because the person concerned is not humble. Indeed, you can pass this judgment, that this seemingly humble brother is haughty, and that God will justify you in your words.

Thus one can always see and hear, that people who have little fear of God confuse love and hate, humility and haughtiness, because they pass a carnal judgment according to outward appearance. John 8:15 and 2 Cor. 10:7.

This is obvious and simple for a godfearing person, for the one who has a childlike trust and faith in God and His word. Whenever God’s word and man’s word are contrary to each other, then either God or man must be a liar.

He is wise who lets these words stand: “Let God be true, but every man a liar.” Give Him the honour who is faithful and true!
