475. New Meeting Hall in Fredrikstad 1935
On Saturday, August 31, this year we were gathered for the dedication of the new meeting hall in Fredrikstad. Approximately 300 people were gathered, and it became a very blessed gathering.
The meeting hall is almost in the center of town and is an adornment to its surroundings. The meeting hall was previously called “Seiersten’s Old Mission House,” and it was old and ramshackled when the friends bought it. The roof and walls “leaked like a sieve,” as the saying goes, and the foundation wall was lower than desirable. But the friends, who are handy people, raised the building several inches and laid new ground beams on the foundation wall, fixed up the roof and walls and so on. So now it stands there freshly painted and looks lovely. The kitchen, cloakroom, and toilets are in the side building with a door into the hall. There is also a nice, fairly large outdoor area.
It was a joy to see brother H. Skutle from Bergen among us. There were also cars and buses; cars came from Hønefoss, Drammen, Oslo, Sarpsborg, and Horten. It was a worthy opening of the hall.
The meetings on Sunday were a great blessing—a lot of young men testified with power and insight. The five young brothers who had been working in Trysil participated in the meeting. Brother E. Aslaksen testified with zeal and fire as usual. We all thank God for this gift. He is the one who has energized the friends so that they have completed their work with joy and a mind of sacrifice.
So we wish the friends in Fredrikstad peace in their work and God’s rich blessing for the future.
