467. Conference in Hallingdal 1934
This time many friends from West Norway came to the conference. A large truck came from Måløy via Lærdal in the Sognefjord. They had traveled the 320 kilometers from Måløy to Lærdal in a large motor boat. Many also came by train from Bergen. The brothers from Fredrikstad do not give up. They come that long way by truck to conference after conference. There were probably about 150 visiting friends in addition to the friends and local people from Hallingdal.
It is very necessary and blessed to meet together with the friends whom we seldom have opportunity to be together with. There was much prayer, and many young people were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues. During such prayer meetings—work meetings—there can be an unusual amount of noise, but it is always like that in a workshop when something is being done. “The old man” doesn’t like noise; he thinks things must be as quiet as a chapel and as dead as a graveyard if he is to be happy. Certainly, some women can howl unnecessarily, but that will soon be corrected, and after that the machinery runs much better. It is as though everything has been well-oiled. Honor and praise to God. So do not be afraid if a revival meeting is a little out of the ordinary. You won’t die because of it. Ungodly people’s standard of order is not to be your standard.
Brother Aslaksen baptized several friends. Besides all these visible, tangible things, there was a lot of instruction and many powerful testimonies, especially from young, strong men. Young people love to hear the truth; even the unsaved young people sit as though they were glued to their seats. We do not have much trouble keeping order.
Brother Rudolf Schwaiger and my son Aksel Smith went back to Måløy with the friends and plan to stay there for one week. Later they will travel to Bergen and stay there for some days.
Four of us stayed in Nesbyen after the conference. Lots of young people turned up, and I believe a number of them were gripped.
It is the mystery of faith: “A crucified flesh,” that binds us together. This mystery has been revealed to many people in recent times. This is the mystery that is able to unite all Christian parties into one flesh, namely, a “crucified flesh.” But religious “business life” hinders the work of faith from developing in practice. Christianity has become a means of livelihood, and consequently Satan has been let loose. This development especially needs to be cut down with the Word of the Spirit in our time. “A crucified flesh” shuts the mouth of all flesh.
Therefore, always proclaim the Word of the cross! It is the power of God for us who believe.
