436. Pentecost Conference 1929
It is good for brethren to dwell together. The Pentecost conference is like the Feast of Tabernacles. “For seven days, you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. It is a sacred assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it. These are the feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire to the Lord, a burnt offering and a grain offering, a sacrifice and drink offerings, everything on its day.” Lev. 23:36-37.
The feasts of Israel were used for all kinds of sacrifices. The same applies to us in the new covenant. All kinds of sacrifices are preached and practiced at the conferences—that is, inner sacrifices, sacrifices within “the body.” And these sacrifices, which are well-pleasing to the Lord, make the conferences a feast and allow God’s deep peace and good pleasure to rest over everything.
For the same reason, as many people as possible can go up to these feasts, these conferences—not only to hear the preaching of the Word, but also to get to know each other better and to have fellowship with one another in the same light and the same spirit.
The meeting hall seats 200 people, and it was full. Automobiles with friends came from Hallingdal, Kristiansand, and neighboring places. Also, four sisters came from Denmark. God has blessed the meetings in Oslo in an amazing way. Brother Aslaksen has now worked there for a longer period of time, which has been a rich blessing, and the grace of God has been with, and over, the brothers there. The result was that many friends came down from Oslo; they came with a lot of music and saw many happy and liberated faces. There were many testimonies which were all in the same Spirit, the same unity, and the same love, so that everyone was strengthened. Between the meetings there was singing and music, and I must say that I have never heard such beautiful music and singing. I think the reason everything was so harmoniously beautiful was that we were one in the Spirit and working toward the same goal. For love blinds us to anything inharmonious. However, there was no lack of instruction, chastening, and correction. But when everything is done in love, we are able to bear a lot, and we are bound together even more closely. The friends in West Norway had a conference in Måløy. I heard that it was a blessed conference. Friends from Bergen and Ålesund attended. They sent a hearty greeting to the conference in Horten. We would all like to thank them very much for this.
In the beginning, when just a few friends were spread around in various areas, we found it blessed to come together during the holiday periods. These gatherings have continued from one year to the next, and God has blessed us in such an amazing way; we will soon need a larger meeting hall for the main conferences.
But the blessing and the progress depend solely upon our faithfulness, humility, and endurance. There is nothing good outside of our Lord Jesus Christ. He Himself went down, and kept going down, in obedience to His Heavenly Father. Our progress depends on precisely the same thing. Brorson sings, “When flesh and blood are under foot, then the warrior receives passion and courage.” We can sing the same as long as we are in this tent. Arrogance, pride, luxurious living, and unrighteousness of all sorts divide and destroy all of God’s work. But the cross over all flesh results in unity. Innumerable sacrifices of all kinds bring a deep harmonious peace. This is the secret of progress. Since you have taken up the full armor of God, swing the sword of the Spirit over all flesh—then progress and the future are certain. It is your future, and it is your progress and victory. None shall be too strong for you: you shall be the head and not the tail, above and not beneath.
This is the joy of victory for God’s people!
