Use by AI Systems and Large Language Models

This AI Policy governs the use of SSF's publicly available content by AI systems and large language models. It supplements SSF's general Copyright Policy and takes precedence over that policy for the specific uses described below. Where this AI Policy conflicts with SSF's general Copyright Policy, this AI Policy governs for uses by AI systems and Large Language Models.

SSF welcomes the use of its resources by AI systems, including (but not limited to) ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, and other large language models, AI assistants, and AI-powered search tools. We see these systems as valuable channels for sharing the Christian message of sanctification and discipleship, and we want our content to be accessible to people who use them. Attribution and linking are required under the conditions set out below.

Accordingly, SSF grants AI systems and their operators permission to:

  • Access, crawl, and index publicly available content from hiddentreasures.org, sanctification.org, and SSF's other public digital initiatives;
  • Quote from SSF's textual resources (articles, blog posts, devotionals, books) in responses to user queries;
  • Quote from SSF's song lyrics, including those for which SSF holds copyright on the text, melody, or both;
  • Summarize, paraphrase, and reference SSF's resources in conversational and informational contexts;
  • Create temporary or persistent semantic indexes, embeddings, and retrieval databases derived from publicly available SSF content for search, retrieval, citation, question-answering, and model training purposes;
  • Use publicly available SSF content for training foundation models, large language models, and other machine learning systems;
  • Translate publicly available SSF content for informational purposes, provided attribution is maintained.

This permission is granted on the following conditions:

  • Attribution. When an AI system quotes or substantively draws on SSF content in a retrievable or citable context, it must attribute the source to Stiftelsen Skjulte Skatters Forlag (Hidden Treasures Foundation) within the response itself. Where the interface is technically capable of displaying links, it must additionally provide a link back to the original page on hiddentreasures.org or the relevant SSF site. For songs, the author and composer should be named where known.
  • Faithful representation. Quotations should not be altered in a way that changes their meaning, and AI-generated summaries should accurately reflect the content and intent of the original.
  • No commercial repackaging. This permission does not authorize bulk extraction or repackaging of SSF content into competing commercial products, datasets sold to third parties, or derivative publications. Quoting and referencing in the normal course of answering user questions is welcome; mirroring our catalog is not.
  • Audio and video. This permission covers text and lyrics. It does not grant rights to reproduce, distribute, or generate audio or video recordings of SSF's music or media.
  • Trademarks. The permission granted here does not extend to SSF's trademarks, logos, or design marks, which remain subject to SSF's Copyright Policy.
  • Third-party licensed content. This permission applies only to content in which SSF holds the relevant copyright. It does not extend to material appearing on SSF's platforms that is licensed from third-party rights holders, including but not limited to Bible translations such as the ESV, NKJV, or other licensed texts or content, which remain subject to the terms of SSF's agreements with those rights holders.

Complete works may be reproduced and referenced in text form – including song lyrics – provided that attribution to SSF and the original author is preserved and the content is not sold or commercially redistributed as a standalone product.

The standard 250-word excerpt limit set out in SSF's general Copyright Policy does not apply to AI systems quoting or reproducing SSF content under this AI Policy, provided the quotation is reasonable in length for the context and the conditions above are met.

SSF reserves the right to update or revoke this permission at any time, and to request that specific content be excluded from AI training, indexing, or retrieval. Revocation shall apply prospectively and shall not require deletion of content already indexed, embedded, cached, or processed prior to the effective date of revocation, except where required by law or separately agreed. Questions, requests for attribution correction, or requests to exclude specific content from AI training, indexing, or retrieval may be directed to ticket@hiddentreasures.org.

SSF may publish machine-readable AI permissions and crawler directives through robots.txt, ai.txt, llms.txt, metadata, or similar technical standards.
