Long ago lived King Melchizedek

1.
Long ago lived King Melchizedek, a priest of God Most High;
In all quietness he did God’s will, unseen by human eye.
He appeared one day with bread and wine, thus Abraham to bless,
Then in silence he retreated in all peace and lowliness.
2.
Honored be each faithful servant here who never seeks his own,
But who gives his life for others, driven by God’s love alone.
He can suddenly appear and bless, not seeking praise from men.
Like Melchizedek, in quietness he vanishes again.
3.
Just as o’er the earth God searches till the upright souls are found,
Bearing blessings, these “Melchizedeks” look eagerly around;
Then with love and care, where there is need, they bless and serve each one.
Soon they’ll hear the Master saying: “Faithful servant, well you’ve done!”
4.
Those who humbly and in lowliness can bless their fellow men
Are along in building up God’s house, the Church, Jerusalem.
In that pure and golden city they will dwell eternally.
Like Melchizedek, they’ve served and built in all humility.
