396. Light has shone into the darkness

Light has shone into the darkness—
Salvation’s glorious light!
Blest is each soul on his journey
Who turns from sin’s dark night.

Chorus:

Hasten! The Spirit calls you;
Walk in the light He gives you.
Soon will the night o’ertake you;
See, it is very near.

Light will shine into your nature;
Then your own life you’ll find.
Break, then, with all that would hinder;
Yield with a willing mind.

If you’ve a grudge ’gainst your brother,
Seek after holy peace.
If you want heavenly riches,
Haste ere this day doth cease.

Always the poor can be gathered;
Many have cares and strife.
They can be won by compassion;
Therefore God gives you life.

God is the source of all goodness;
His tender voice obey.
Always be fervent in spirit!
You’ll reap with joy one day.
