We, like Abraham, in faith will go;
Then God’s promises we’ll reach, we know.
What God speaks within, obeying—
Joyfully, without delaying.
Home and friend and land we leave behind;
Out we go, not knowing what we’ll find.
We obey and thus are filled with joy from year to year.

2.

We, like Abraham, will naught possess;
Take our honor, wealth, and all the rest!
Our own rights we’re not reserving,
For our call in life is serving.
See, the land of Canaan lies ahead;
Choose the right and we’ll go left instead.
Then the blessings of the Lord we’ll reap from year to year.

By God’s mighty hand we’re firmly led;
His good Spirit guides the way ahead.
Step by step—our faith won’t waver,
And the land’s good fruit we savor.
Count the stars of heaven if you can—
Great your seed, in number as the sand.
Thus God blesses every man of faith in Canaan’s land.

4.

Even though we many years may wait
For God’s promises so blest and great,
We’re in faith’s assurance resting—
Never doubting or protesting.
What God gives to us that we hold dear,
To the place of sacrifice we’ll bear.
We shall then behold God’s glory there from year to year.
