Lo, a Branch from ground so barren

1.
Lo, a Branch from ground so barren
Out of Jesse’s root does grow,
And the way of faith’s obedience
Jesus made for us to go.
When He came unto His people,
They rejected Him because
They’d rejected God’s commandments,
Thus were blind to who He was.
2.
To possess the Father’s likeness
Was not robbery for Christ—
Under Moses’ law was born here;
All for us He sacrificed.
’Gainst the Pharisees He thundered
When God’s Word He did expound,
For He lived God’s Word, was blameless,
But by evil they were bound.
3.
When He as a Man was found here
On this wretched earth below,
He went down, crushed sin and Satan—
To the very depths did go.
None as lowly was as Jesus,
Humbling self from day to day,
He was touched with our afflictions,
Thus He made salvation’s way.
4.
In His flesh, to death He suffered,
O’er the world, victorious.
He was justified in Spirit—
Bread of Life became for us.
We’ll with Him be heirs together
If His suff’rings here we bear.
Friends, take heed! Of this be mindful!
Then His glory soon we’ll share.
