One day Simon Peter said to the disciples,
“Fishing we should go.” They agreed, and so
Off they went a-fishing in the gloomy darkness,
But for all their efforts had no fish to show.

As the dawn was breaking, on the shore was waiting
Jesus, good and kind, but their eyes were blind.
Though He gently called them, yet they did not know Him;
They were so dismayed that they no fish could find.

3.

Jesus told them, “Let your nets down on the right side.”
Quickly they agreed. Then they did succeed!—
For they had obeyed and done what Jesus told them.
There are fish aplenty when the Lord you heed.

Now their eyes were opened; Christ their Lord had spoken.
How they praised His name when the blessing came!
“It’s the Lord and Master of the winds and waters.
By His works we know it’s Him!” they did proclaim.

5.

If all night you’ve striven, every effort given,
Did you thereby find joy and peace of mind?
Those who go a-fishing in the flesh, and wishing
For a catch, will only empty nets there find.

6.

Only with Christ Jesus can we good accomplish;
In our own strength we won’t have victory.
Jesus wants to lead you; He will go before you.
He’s a mighty Savior; He will set you free.

7.

Are you heavy laden? Filled with disappointment?
Be no more downcast; to the Lord hold fast.
Wait on Him, and He will come and dwell within you.
Bondage to the flesh forever will be past.
