You cannot do the great things; you will not do the small

1.
You cannot do the great things; you will not do the small.
Howe’er can you expect to make progress here at all?
So tired you are from running with footmen in the race;
Howe’er shall you be able with horses to keep pace?
2.
You’re bound by fear of men who are pow’rless in God’s sight.
Howe’er shall you be able ’gainst evil hosts to fight?
With Jesus you won’t suffer; your burdens you won’t bear.
Howe’er shall you be able to share His glory there?
3.
You want to be like Jesus, but not to bear His shame;
So how can you tell others to suffer for His name?
You like to lead the others, but you yourself are blind.
Howe’er shall you be able the way of life to find?
4.
You break the laws of life, yet you glory in commands.
Howe’er shall you be able before the Lord to stand?
Take care of little matters, and then you will progress.
The best thing you can do is remain in lowliness.
5.
Rejoice upon life’s way, and be faithful in the small.
The greatest thing in life is obedience to God’s call.
The Lord is watching o’er you; don’t fear, He’ll see you through.
For He can save completely a needy soul like you!
