Jesus began to teach and say

1.
Jesus began to teach and say,
Blessed the poor in their spirit;
Theirs is God’s Kingdom. Truly they
Are those who have come the most near it.
Blessed are those who now do mourn.
These God with comfort will adorn.
And they who are meek, earth inherit.
2.
Blessed are those who hunger, thirst—
Into God’s righteousness pressing.
Such in God’s kingdom will be first,
His glory and honor possessing.
Blessed the merciful of heart—
Goodness God will to them impart.
Pure hearts see the Lord of all blessing.
3.
Those who make peace are truly blest—
They shall be known as God’s children.
Those hated, scorned for righteousness,
Refreshment from God will be given.
Blessed are those who bear Christ’s shame
And are reproached for Jesus’ name,
For great their reward is in heaven.
4.
Salt of the earth you’re called to be;
Make sure it keeps all its savor.
Let your light shine for all to see.
In darkness so many souls waver.
God will fulfill what’s prophesied!
His name be praised and glorified
By unnumbered saints, now and ever!
5.
None of God’s Word shall pass away
While there is still earth and heaven.
Keep His Word—teach it and obey.
Reward from the Lord you’ll be given.
God’s Spirit, through the blood of Christ,
Leads to obedience, sacrifice.
And on to the goal—full salvation.
