Run Well, Always
May we always obey the Spirit of truth so that we always run well, both in good times and in hard times, in good report and evil report. We must not stop running well, even when some circumstances become challenging, but always live in close fellowship with God and Jesus, and all the saints.
It is easy to let certain circumstances or difficulties get in the way of our spiritual life and development, and therefore to become somewhat sluggish in our race. “You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is.” Gal. 5:7–10.
A little leaven that leavens the whole lump can be, for example, a little bitterness, empty honor, envy, contentiousness, etc. It ruins a good race. However, if we are faithful to the Spirit of truth, then we will receive grace to serve Him in all the circumstances of life, for the prize of the upward call in Christ Jesus.
Jas. 1:12: “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” Let us be among those who run well all the way and throughout our lives.
It is written in John 16:13: “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” It is so easy to speak from ourselves, but that only tears down. But now we must speak what God wants to bring forth. Then it will be to the benefit and blessing of both for ourselves and the others in the church.
2 John 2: “Because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever.” Let us really live a life worthy of the truth. Then we will have a life that cannot be shaken, but will remain with us for eternity. Then we will have truly run well throughout our entire life.
