The Key to Heaven on Earth!

Jesus’ prayer to God in the trials of life was quite simple: “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matt. 6:10. He taught His disciples that the kingdom of heaven can only come down to earth into the heart of a person who does God’s will instead of his own. Ch. 7:21; Luke 17:21. “Your will be done” and “not as I will, but as You will,” was not a prayer now and then but was Jesus’ daily prayer in all the circumstances of life. Matt. 26:39. “Your will be done” is the key to the kingdom of heaven where righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit reign. Rom. 14:17.

This kingdom is not bound to a place or circumstance. One cannot say it is here or there, for the kingdom of heaven is within us, as long as we remain in the will of God. Luke 17:21. By holding on to our own “rights” and strong opinions—doing our own will—we can try to create a kingdom for ourselves. But then we can never enter the kingdom of heaven and receive a heavenly peace and rest and joy within us. Despite our own self-created “paradise” we can be full of unrest and without joy in the Spirit, especially when things do not go as we like and when our own desires and expectations are not met. And then we are always disappointed!

Jesus said to Peter: “When you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” John 21:18-19. When Peter experienced this later in life, it must have stirred up something inside him. But he understood to let God take control of his life and he received an abundant entrance into an everlasting kingdom that cannot be shaken. 2 Pet. 1:11; Heb. 12:27-28. He had this kingdom within him, no matter where he was taken!

It is with “Your will be done” and “not as I will, but as You will” that we enter the eternal kingdom of heaven! Then we do what is right in God’s eyes—His righteousness—and find true peace and joy in our hearts, regardless of our circumstances. And as things in these end times are now beginning to fall apart around us, we are not shaken, but can thank God that we are allowed to get more of His eternal heavenly kingdom within us, that cannot be shaken!
