Let Us Do Good

Let Us Do Good

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Gal. 6:9.

Shouldn’t we do good? We who have been redeemed from the curse of the law. We who have had all our guilt of sin wiped out. We who have been lavished with God’s love and have received all the help and strength we need through His word and Spirit. We who have been grafted into the olive tree and have become members of the body of Christ. This must be what Paul was referring to when he wrote “us.” Who else can truly do good? Unless this is true within me, my actions become nothing more than so-called goodness, with a distinct aftertaste of my strong ego.

Who or what am I, that I should be able to do something truly good? It is only what God can work through the one who is poor in spirit that truly becomes good. When such people do good, it is because their love for Christ—in return for His love—compels them. Such people are stripped of their own honor and have no hidden or personal agenda in what they do. Everything is for Jesus and through Jesus.

Being on the receiving end of such goodness makes an indelible impression and has a tremendous drawing power. It leads to repentance. By such goodness we are drawn toward heaven with divine bonds, and the extent of all the good that such people do is hard to fathom.

Let us thank God that we have received grace to experience such true and genuine goodness, and to work and grow in doing good without growing weary. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Gal. 6:10.
