How Do You Read?
“In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, ‘I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.’” Luke 10:21.
Not long after Jesus said this, a lawyer came and asked the question, “What shall I do . . . ?”
Jesus answered this lawyer with a question: “How do you read it?” V. 26. (AMP)
Those who are simple like little children, don’t ask many questions, but they believe what they read and do what they read.
The lawyer gave the correct answer to Jesus’ question, and Jesus simply said: “Do this, and you will live.” V. 28.
We read further how the lawyer wanted to justify himself and he continued to ask questions. This time he asked who his neighbor was. Then Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan.
Once again, the lawyer was able to answer Jesus’ question correctly. Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” V. 37.
No wonder Jesus rejoiced that the gospel was hidden from the wise—who often study, interpret, evaluate, and question. 1 Cor. 1:25-29.
But little children read and do, without asking many questions. Rev. 1:3.
May God grant me grace to read correctly, so that what I read results in works. Jas. 2:14-18.
