The Quarry

“And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.” 1 Kings 6:7.

No sound of hammers was heard in the temple when it was being built. All the chipping and forming was done in the quarry, outside the camp, so that it was quiet as the temple was being built. Heb. 13:12-14. This is how it also must be for us. When we are chipped and formed in the hidden place, there is peace and fellowship and the church can be edified and built up. Eph. 2:20-22.

“For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Col. 3:3. We have a hidden life with Christ that is very precious and it must be cultivated. Especially in tribulations, it is easy to make some noises that are not edifying. We can speak to the one person and the other about the trials and difficulties. But we should allow the fire of purification to work in silence there before God and not seek an easier way through the trials. It is easy to look for comfort from sources who “understand” me, etc. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Cor. 1:3-4.

God is the one who comforts us. This is not a false comfort but true and lasting comfort that comes from being under God’s good and mighty hand, and being formed in the quarry. Then we can truly comfort others with the same comfort which we have received from God. We are also comforted by those who themselves have been comforted by God.

“You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” 1 Pet. 2:5.

When we are under this treatment, God is able to form us as He pleases so that we fit into this temple, into this spiritual house. We become living stones who fit together perfectly. How blessed and good to live a hidden life with Christ in God and allow his cleansing work to take place unto salvation. Then our lives will result in blessing and edification for His body here on earth.
