Led by the Spirit of God

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Rom. 8:14. We need to ask ourselves what drives the decisions we make in life. The love of money, as mentioned in 1 Tim. 6:10, makes us stray from the faith, and then we are no longer led by the Spirit of God, but instead by the lusts of this world.

If I judge others for things I myself do, then God’s judgment comes over me. I forget that God’s goodness and the riches of His forbearance and longsuffering lead me to repentance. In accordance with my hardness and impenitent heart, the Spirit can no longer lead me to see my own sin. Rom. 2:4.

We are exhorted in Jas. 1:6 to ask in faith, with no doubting, otherwise we are like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. This is far from being led by the Spirit. On the contrary, we are walking in the futility of our mind in our lives, and we remain darkened in our understanding, and are alienated from the life of God. Eph. 4:17-18. On the other hand, by faith that we will partake in God’s wisdom, we receive a steady course for our lives and we can be led by the Spirit.

Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:8: “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” This is written in connection with being born again. It is impossible for flesh to understand spiritual matters. 1 Cor. 2:13. By allowing ourselves to be led by the Spirit of God, our thoughts come into alignment with God’s thoughts, and He will give us a future and hope. Jer. 29:11.
