The Glory That God Gave the Son!
God’s word is the glory that leads to unity! John 17:8. The unity between the Father and the Son is referred to by Jesus as the glory, and He gave that to His disciples. V. 21-23.
This glory came about by the Son being one with the Father in the days of His flesh here on earth. Then God condemned the sin in His flesh and Jesus became a sacrifice. Everything that entered into humanity through the Fall of Man and which had been passed down through the generations received its judgment.
In Eph. 2:16 we read that by the cross He put to death the enmity, to reconcile Gentiles and Jews together in one body. It is the enmity that dwells in the flesh, which stands as a dividing wall between these two groups. This must be torn down if there is to be fellowship. And this took place, as it is written in verse 16, by putting to death the enmity “in Himself.” [German LUT1545].
This gave us access to the Father in one Spirit—the Spirit of sacrifice of Jesus Christ. V. 18. Everyone who has the same mind and who lives in that Spirit is joined together in one body, and that is the glory that came through Jesus’ sacrifice. This is the glory He has given to His disciples. By being obedient to God’s word, as Jesus was, unity comes forth as a testimony to God’s glory. Then, we are baptized by one Spirit into one body! 1 Cor. 12:13.
