Thank You Father You Have Hidden These Things
Jesus was so grateful that the Father had hidden these things from the wise and understanding. He saw God’s wisdom that those things which were great in the eyes of God would be hidden from those who thought they had understanding. This law is again mentioned in chapter 13:34-36. He spoke to the multitude in parables. This fulfilled the Scriptures that He would speak about matters hidden from before the foundation of the world. It actually says that they were “kept secret.” Then His disciples came and asked Him to explain the parables. They were needy and poor and wanted to hear Him, and He explained the parables to them.
In verse 44, He spoke about how the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure in the field and how a man found it and hid it. This same man who had the treasure revealed to him, did all he could to buy that field. Many people passed by and just saw the field. But the man gladly sold all that he owned so that he could buy that field—he knew the treasure that was there. In verses 45 and 46 the merchant was looking for good and valuable pearls, and when he found one, he was able to see the glory it possessed. He did everything possible to purchase it. His eyes were open to the pearl of great price. He went gladly and sold everything to buy that pearl. The kingdom of heaven—the body of Christ—is something hidden from before the foundation of the world.
Many people passing by, see the church just like that field, just a group of believers, without seeing its value. Eph. 1:15-19. The mysteries are revealed to disciples, things that have been kept secret since before the creation of the earth. The glory is revealed to those who are lowly of heart and who are needy. These ones also have received a heavenly calling before the earth was formed.
There can be some in a local church who find the others hard to bear. They are not happy with how God has set things in the church. They feel that the others don’t understand them. They see problems and difficulties. But those who have the body revealed to them, see these precious pearls that the Father has elected and brought forth by His word. They are thankful from the heart that God has allowed them to sit with princes and kings and priests. They gladly sell everything in this world to be along with these ones who have been hand-picked to be a first fruit to God. We can rejoice in this prayer of Jesus who was thankful that God ordained things this way. And we are beyond thankful that He has revealed His precious body to us.
