Arild Tombre’s Reports in “Skjulte Skatter”

Brother Arild Tombre wrote his first report in the August, 1950 issue of Skjulte Skatter [Hidden Treaures] when he was just 18 years old. It was after a Sunday School conference that he gathered the main message into a simple and easily understood report. Among other things he wrote, “Blessed are those who understand that Jesus overcomes the Evil One and who fight on His side from when they are young. They are little prophets and servants of God.” Here we see how he highlights the young ones’ faithfulness and blessing by means of an overcoming life, which of course is the core message of the gospel of God! The report bears the marks of blessings and joy by keeping a good conscience before God, to whom all of us must give account. He concludes the report with the following words: “Children, let us heed what we have heard, love the Word, and do it. Then we avoid drifting out on the same tide that the others are drifting out on. God, who cannot lie, has said that it shall succeed for us!”

Throughout all these years we have known our dear brother as a God-fearing man who has lived what he has proclaimed and written. For over sixty years he has faithfully written reports of conferences and gatherings. Therefore we know that when he writes a report, he doesn’t just pass on words that were spoken, but he writes God’s word spoken by our shepherds and prophets in demonstration of the Spirit and of power that are anchored in his personal life experiences in which he has faithfully stood in God’s intimate counsel during all these years. He has an open ear for God’s message. Therefore it is well worth our while to read his conference reports over and over again!

He concludes the last conference report in Skjulte Skatter in the same Spirit in which he concluded the first one—focusing on the practical, hidden life with Christ in God with which a disciple is always occupied: “All things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. In life’s circumstances we must act with this understanding that we only have to do with the living God. Joshua and Caleb entered the Promised Land because they only had to do with Him. Life takes a completely different turn when we cease to think, speak, and act according to our feelings and human reasoning, and begin to think, speak, and act according to His guidance to whom we must give account.”

I want to thank you with all of my heart, dear brother, for all the blessings you have imparted through Skjulte Skatter by means of your own articles and your reports from conferences and gatherings. Through your ministry the publication has borne abundant fruit in receptive hearts. A sincere “thank you” for your unselfish ministry in the church through your travels, messages, and missionary activities in many churches and countries! Your life is a powerful testimony of the continually increasing virtues of Christ, which are irresistible proof that you in no way have been inactive or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For the same reason you will also have an abundant entrance into the eternal kingdom of Jesus Christ. 2 Pet. 1:8-11.

May God richly bless you, your dear wife Mirjam, and your entire, large, extended family who are also a great blessing in the church!
