Slavery of Sin or Slavery of Righteousness
In some Bible translations, these passages are translated using the word “slaves.” These are spiritual words, a spiritual expression for the word “servant.”
He who commits sin is in bondage to sin, or is a slave. It is our calling to be set free from doing what we know to be sin, set free from this slavery. God be praised, who loves us so dearly! When we, in accordance with Luke 14:26, 27 and 33, forsake or renounce—in every sense of the word—all that is ours, all our self-will, then we have nothing left; we have no say anymore. We have then made the personal choice of voluntarily renouncing all our rights for self-determination, fully confident that we will make out very well indeed with Jesus Christ as our only Lord and Master.
We have then sold out to Him, without reservation, forever and have then (spiritually speaking) become His slaves.
The fact is, our self-will has caused us nothing but misfortune. But His will brings us perfect and constant happiness, without a single exception!!! So this is an indescribably glorious slavery, and the expression, the name itself, does not do it any harm!
Dear children have many names, i.e., bride, regent, king, my beloved, child of the light. In reality this means that Jesus always decides for us.
God willing, we live. God willing, we travel here or there. God willing, we buy this or that, which He wills only rarely except for a little food and drink, because covetousness is a horrible sin which God hates. It is idolatry! Slaves must always receive their orders, or permission, from their dearly beloved Lord and Master! Always! Without exception!
This is precisely why this Bible translation is of extraordinary help for all of Jesus’ true disciples, or students, or apprentices!
Imagine that our dear Lord and Master wants to share all His glory with us who were formerly great sinners!
Then it is no wonder that we voluntarily sell ourselves completely to Him with everything that is in us and all that we have.
