“So the Word of the Lord Grew Mightily and Prevailed.”
The main goal with the preaching of God’s Word is that it prevails. Jesus overcame all the evil spirit powers in the strength of the authority He had received from His Father, the God of all might.
When Jesus sent out His disciples to make disciples of all the nations, teaching them to observe all things He had commanded them, He said, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
He promised to be with them always, even to the ends of the earth. They received authority from heaven to set people free, so they could come to a victorious and happy life. Through the power of the gospel they received grace to lead people from the power of darkness to the power of light—from death to life.
Jesus received power over all flesh; thus He was able to give life to all those whom God had given to Him. If any part of the flesh had had any power over Him, He would not have been able to give eternal life to anyone. John 17:2.
He was faithful, and He used the power He had received from His heavenly Father. Through the power of faith something always happens, to God’s glory. Paul prayed for the Ephesians that they might receive enlightened eyes and the spirit of wisdom and revelation so they could see and understand their high and holy calling and how exceedingly great God’s power is toward those who believe. We must be aware of the fact that we have this power. No other spirit power must be allowed to overcome us.
There is a saying that knowledge is power. The battle for power rages from when the children play in the sandbox until they attain high positions in various areas. The most horrendous things can happen when evil powers rule. Millions of people can be tortured and killed in meaningless wars. At schools and at places of employment a few people can make it difficult for the others when they gang up on someone. It is part of human nature that the strong want to rule over the weaker ones.
The good power is stronger than the evil power. In 2 Peter 1:3-4 we see the greatest glory anyone can gain through knowledge: “As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and virtue.”
Man’s knowledge will increase in the last days, and everything will happen quickly. Science is gaining deep insight into God’s marvelous and perfect work of creation, but they will never advance beyond where God has been before them, with His thoughts. All of man’s thoughts cease at the point of death, but the knowledge of God is eternal and surpasses all human glory.
When Paul, with anointed eyes, was able to see an eternal glory in the knowledge that was in Jesus Christ, his Lord, he considered all other knowledge as nothing. Phil. 3:8.
