“But Let Your ‘Yes’ Be ‘Yes,’ and Your ‘No,’ ‘No.’”
“For whatever is more than these is from the evil [the devil].” Matt. 5:37. In the French Bible [and in the English NKJV] it says, “Whatever you add to this is from the evil one [the devil].”
All sin and all folly is the result of not taking God’s Word extremely seriously. Take this very thing to heart, and you will be truly wise and understanding, with unspeakably many good results!!!
Who has received the above-mentioned scripture in deadly earnest? I shudder at the thought! What an infinite number of additions, explanations, assurances, assertions, and objections which, taken together, are of the evil one, the devil himself!
If we had believed Jesus’ words, instead of our own foolish, human reasoning and feelings, then we would have avoided much sin, and we would have quite a bit less to give account for on that day when we will have to give account for every idle word. This is also a scripture that almost no one bothers about. One simply continues to be as careless as one has become used to from one’s youth.
There is a dire lack of the fear of God, even among dear brothers, and a correspondingly disastrous disdain for God’s plain, clear, and unmistakable Word.
By God’s grace, may there be a radical awakening in this particular area which is so vital! Do not postpone it! Go to action right away, today, even at this very moment! We have no time to lose!
