Called to Fellowship

“God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1 Cor. 1:9.

This is the most exalted fellowship to which any man can be called. God Himself, who is faithful, guarantees that all help in this fellowship is at the disposal of those who fear Him.

“The Lord has fellowship with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant.” Ps. 25:14. This mutual covenant with those who fear God is firmly established.

Fellowship must first of all be in order with Christ, in purity of heart, and on that basis we can be united with Christ as our head in one heart and one mind. Only in this fellowship can we all speak the same thing and be perfectly joined together in the same mind and the same judgment. 1 Cor. 1:10.

There is a multitude of the most varied types of religious and worldly fellowships. However, they soon dissolve because of honor seeking, love of money, and all sorts of impure motives.

In the first church they continued steadfastly in fellowship, among other things. This fellowship must be strengthened both inwardly and outwardly through devotion and faithfulness. There can be no lasting outward fellowship if we do not have a sincere, inward connection with Christ.

“Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God.” Rom. 15:5-7.

Paul associated the fellowship in the Spirit, compassion, and mercy, with perfect joy. In this inner strength of joy they were able to humble themselves under each other and serve one another in humility.

This blessed fellowship does not break down, but it grows constantly stronger in the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace. Every single sin separates us from fellowship with Christ, but each single virtue of Christ unites us ever more strongly with Christ and the saints.

Evil and strong spirit powers are pressing in with the darkness of night, but we will be more than conquerors through Him who can give us of His Spirit and power, which no other power can overcome.

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” 1 John 5:4. “What communion has light with darkness?” 2 Cor. 6:14.

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7.
